SCHOOL BUS SAFETY WEEK IS OCTOBER 16TH –20TH

School Bus Safety week offers a great opportunity for families to discuss rules and good habits for staying safe.  Even students who normally walk to school or who ride with parents need to be reminded of these rules, since they will ride buses for school field trips.  Page 57 of the Dorchester County Public Schools’ calendar spells out the procedures and rules for safe bus transportation.

Prior to loading the bus, students should:  arrive at the bus stop in plenty of time, wear bright or reflective clothes so that they can be seen by drivers, stay out of the road and wait quietly.

Once they are on the bus, students should:  stay out of the aisle, keep hands and feet to themselves, talk quietly, remain seated, and follow directions from the driver.

When unloading and leaving the bus, students should: use handrails and stay in a single file line.

Students should always remember to stay at least 10 feet away from the bus on all sides (For instance, when getting on buses or approaching a pick-up car after school).

Parents, please remember that cars need to stay out of the bus area at the start of the school day and at dismissal so that the drivers can safely do their jobs.

                  You’re Invited!
